I'm not talking about avoiding candy bars with razors in them from the creepy guy down the street. For my youngest daughter, avoiding flour, eggs and milk—the ingredients in any halfway decent treat—is imperative to avoid having a wicked, bloody rash all over.
But fortunately, a few months back, I just happened to write an article about a bakery that makes wicked-good treats that suit people with the most common allergies—eggs, dairy, wheat and nuts. (They were inspired by their son, who had much more severe allergies than my daughter.) At Divvies.com, they offer allergy-safe candies, cookies, popcorn, cupcakes and other treats—and I have to say, the dairy-free chocolate is pretty darn close to the original (just a tiny bit grainier in texture). I'm planning to stock up on a big five-pound bag of chocolate chips—and a few fabulous candies—to help my daughter deal with her food allergy.

We are a huge popcorn family. Sweet and chewy, salty and crunchy, lightly buttered, whatever. Well, maybe not LIGHTLY buttered, but yeah. We love popcorn. Count us in!

It is so hard now when planning birthdays, play dates, and so on to think about the kids with allergies. I've tried hard to make sure I think about it when my kids meet up with friends. While we don't have allergy issues, I know lots of moms who do. This popcorn would be great to serve at all the fall parties and play dates we have lined up -- wouldn't it be awesome to save a mom-friend the worry and let her kids not have to be told no to a treat everyone else is enjoying!? YES!!

I'm looking for something to send in for school Halloween parties. There is a boy in my son's class who has severe food allergies. He sits at a peanut free table for lunch and sometimes sits alone. It breaks my heart to think of a little kindergartener sitting by himself at lunch. I have encouraged my son to sit with him and he does on many days. I think it's a case of kids finding a seat the first day of school and gravitating to that spot every day. I would love to be able to include this child in all of the festivities with this caramel popcorn!
